New nonstop international flight takes off from Austin for limited time
A new international nonstop flight will take off from Austin next spring — for a limited time. Scandinavian Airlines SAS has announced the addition of nonstop service from ABIA to Stockholm, Sweden’s Arlanda Airport, aligning with SXSW 2018.
SAS will operate two nonstop, round-trip flights on the route in March 2018. Flights will be operated using Airbus 330 aircraft, with 262 seats total, including Business Class, Plus Class, and Economy Class. A one-way ticket from Austin to Stockholm starts at $628.10.
The first flight departs Stockholm on March 8 at 9:20 am, arriving in Austin at 1 pm that day. It then departs Austin March 8 at 3 pm, arriving in Stockholm at 8:20 am the following day. The second flight departs Stockholm at 1:50 pm on March 12 and arrives in Austin at 6:40 pm that day. It departs Austin at 8:40 pm March 12 and arrives in Stockholm at 1 pm March 13.
“The interest in attending [SXSW] from all the Scandinavian countries has made us aim to make it easier for our passengers to reach the festival. Many of our customers are innovative, creative and very keen on digitization, which is completely in line with what we are doing at SAS,” says Max Knagge, General Manager for SAS Americas, in a release. The release also notes that the flight makes it easy for Central Texans to "enjoy a Scandinavian getaway."
This is the second seasonal international flight aligning with SXSW. In July, Delta announced four nonstop, round-trip flights between Amsterdam and Austin in March 2018.
