Laugh it up
Austin's Moontower Comedy Festival adds Nick Offerman and more to all-star lineup
Moontower Comedy Festival, the city's celebration of all things funny, revealed its third lineup announcement — and it's a guaranteed laugh riot. The eighth annual Moontower takes over the Paramount and State theaters, Cap City Comedy Club, and various downtown venues for what is arguably the funniest weekend of the year.
On February 15, the homegrown fest added Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Vir Das, (Netflix's Losing It), Anthony Atamanuik (American Tantrum), and Hari Kondabolu (Netflix's Warn Your Relatives) as headliners. Jon Glaser, who also starred in Parks and Rec as Councilman Jeremy Jamm, rounds out the top billed comedians.
Big Jay Oakerson, Billy Wayne Davis, Jo Firestone, Jon Rudnitsky, Sasheer Zamata, Dana Gould, and Nathan MacIntosh were also announced as joining the festival, which runs April 24 through 27.
The Bonfire also announced it will be broadcasting its Sirius XM show from Austin during the long weekend. Netflix's Schitt's Creek, it was announced in January, will take part in an "up close and personal" show at the Paramount Theatre with cast members Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and Dan Levy, among others.
Offerman, et al. join previously announced headliners Nate Bargatze, Ronny Chieng, Amanda Seales, Sal Vulcano, David Spade, and Jenny Slate. According to a release, additional performers will be revealed as the fest approaches, "including more talent playing satellite shows at Moontower venues throughout Austin and an amazing lineup of Austin- and Texas-based comedians."
During its relatively short tenure, Moontower has become one of North America's most prestigious comedy festivals. Since launching in 2012, Moontower has attracted such mega-talent as Maria Bamford, Hannibal Buress, Lesley Jones and Colin Jost, Amy Schumer, John Mulaney, and Wanda Sykes.
Badges for the festival are on sale now, and include Star, Nexus, Warrior, and Satellite options, which range in price from $99-$1,000. Perks include everything from premium seats at headliner shows to priority entry at clubs around downtown Austin. To purchase a badge, click here.
