SXSW's free outdoor concert series returns to Auditorium Shores with killer lineup
Editor's note: Since publication, SXSW has released additional details about its Friday lineup. Those additions are reflected below.
One of SXSW's hippest happenings returns to Auditorium Shores March 14-16. The free outdoor concert series, hosted on the SXSW Outdoor Stage, has become one of the festival's most popular events, drawing more than 50,000 attendees to the banks of Lady Bird Lake.
On February 27, the homegrown festival revealed the lineup for both Thursday, March 14, and Saturday, March 16, with all of its Friday, March 15, acts to be announced at a later date.
Headlining the Thursday show is X Ambassadors performing at 8:45 pm. VOILÀ gets the night started off right with a performance at 6 pm followed by Odette (6:45 pm) and Jamie N Commons (7:40 pm).
Friday's headliners, Dungeon Family, which consists of all-stars Big Boi, Goodie Mob, and Organized Noize’s Sleepy Brown, plays from 8:30-9:45 pm. Abhi The Nomad opens (6 pm) and additional acts will be announced closer to the event.
Saturday's bill includes headlining act Patty Griffin also taking the stage at 8:45 pm, along with Andrew Bird (7:40 pm), Courtney Marie Andrews (6:45 pm), and William Tyler (6 pm).
Perhaps the best part of all is the Outdoor Stage's reasonable set times, a boon for those of us who fall asleep at 10 pm.
Though Friday has yet to be revealed, attendees can likely expect a mix of national and local acts. Past performers include everyone from Garth Brooks and Childish Gambino to Shakey Graves and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats.
Entrance to the Outdoor Stage is free and open to all, but attendees who do not have an official SXSW badge or wristband must register for a free SXSW Guest Pass. In addition to the Outdoor Stage, the Guest Pass also gains entrance to Flatstock 69, SXSW Wellness Expo, and the SXSW Marketplace, among other events.
