High-end Austin boot maker kicks into Dallas to open brand's biggest shop yet
It's officially boot-wearing season, and one Austin company is on a mission to make sure all of Texas is ready.
On October 4, Tecovas, the Austin-based brand specializing in Western wear, boots, and accessories, opened its first Dallas store, moving in at 3010 N. Henderson Ave., in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood. It is the largest retail space for the brand to date.
It is also a homecoming of sorts for Tecovas founder and CEO Paul Hedrick, who is a Dallas native.
"Having grown up in Dallas, this is a particularly special opening for me, and one we've been looking forward to for a while," Hedrick says. "It took time find the right place, but we're thrilled to open our largest store on Henderson Avenue, and bring our high bar for customer experience to physical retail in a fantastic new city."
The company partnered with Austin's Michael Hsu Office of Architecture on the 4,000-square-foot space, an Old West-meets-contemporary design featuring a mix of rugged and industrial materials that contrast with rich, warm tones and densely textured surfaces. "The store’s handmade feel and playful collection of decor is informed by the intricately detailed objects such as belts, saddles, and spurs that accompanied the idyllic cowboy and his place within the vast frontier," the company says in a statement.
Among the eye-catching features is a piece from Kyle Bunting, a high-end Austin textile maker specializing in hides. Bunting created a signature piece of art for the store: a hanging hide depicting the iconic Dallas skyline.
The Dallas flagship was a natural next, ahem, step for the boot brand. Though Hedrick founded the company in 2015, Tecovas didn't move into its first physical space until earlier this year, when it opened a flagship store on Austin's bustling South Congress Avenue strip. A San Antonio shop came next, opening in July.
The new store, according to the company, was designed to enhance the Tecovas direct-to-consumer business model.
Customers are able to try shoes on a variety of sizes and either purchase directly from the store or have them shipped. The new Dallas store also offers embossing on all leather goods, as well as complimentary boot shines and beverages (beer, bourbon, or even an occasional craft cocktail).
At the new Dallas shop, customers can see, touch, and try on products that, until now, have only been available online and in the brand’s Austin and San Antonio locations. All sizes and styles will be available for purchase from inventory on-site. The company calls the Dallas flagship "beautifully designed, comfortable, and streamlined."
Hours are 10 am-8 pm Monday-Saturday 11 am-6 pm Sunday.
