Concert rumors swirl after Rolling Stones mural pops up in South Austin
It appears the world's biggest rock band is coming back to Austin. Possibly. Maybe.
Last week, the Austin Chronicle reported that the Rolling Stones are scheduled to play a show at Circuit of The Americas sometime over Memorial Day weekend. (Not the amphitheater, the actual 100,000-plus capacity track.) Though that report was largely confirmed by unnamed sources, it appears the band may have coyly dropped a hint of its own on February 3 in the heart of South Austin.
Eagle-eyed commuters spotted a massive Rolling Stones-themed mural on Monday morning, located on the former La Bare nightclub on the corner of Riverside Drive and South Congress Avenue. Then, around 11 am, the Stones added to confusion with a nine-second clip posted on their Instagram with the caption, "Feeling Restless."
And Austin isn't the only city to wake up to a Rolling Stones clue. News outlets in Buffalo, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, and Detroit have also reported Stones-themed murals, billboards, and even ice sculptures.
The last time Mick Jagger and company played the Capital City was 2006, when the the legendary band headlined Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park. The band also hit up Houston's NRG Stadium last year to a sell-out crowd and rave reviews.
While it's all still speculation at this point, rumor has it to expect an announcement later this week. We suggest following along at #stonesatx.
