New rooftop bar from cocktail dream team opens in South Austin
A swanky new cocktail bar is heating up the South Austin nightlife scene: Backbeat, the latest concept from drink.well. co-owners Jessica and Michael Sanders, opens Tuesday, March 22.
The Jamie Chioco-designed space offers distinct yet complementary vibes throughout the indoor lounge and rooftop bar where patrons can sip fun plays on classic mixed drinks.
"The ethos behind Backbeat's core menu reflects the comfortable, lively energy of the space itself," said Jessica in a press release. "The menu itself is just one piece of the puzzle to make the experience come alive for our guests. Every cocktail, every dish, every bottle or can was chosen with one question in mind: 'Will this help put someone in a great mood?'"
One beverage that is certain to put anyone in a good mood is the Neon Jungle, a mix of mezcal, Jamaican rum, and tropical flavors served in a tall Tiki glass with a glow-stick straw. This drink is named after neon artist Evan Voyles, who is responsible for most of the iconic signs on South Congress as well as Backbeat's own neon emblem.
In addition to cocktails, Backbeat offers a curated wine list, craft beer on draft, and a unique Champagne program highlighting different producers. On the food side, expect light bites such as fresh oysters, a savory paté melt, a refreshing salad, and a charcuterie board.
With Ramen Tatsu-ya, Odd Duck, and other hot eateries nearby, Backbeat hopes to be the go-to neighborhood spot for a pre- or post-meal drink. "It is very exciting to open south of the river in this neighborhood. South Lamar has always been an important cultural destination in Austin and, over time, has become a culinary one as well," said Michael. "We are looking forward to Backbeat being a spirited part of this community and the vibrant social scene here."
Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 4 pm to 2 am, Saturday and Sunday from 2 pm to 2 am.
