Naked Texas Ranger on cover of ESPN magazine fields national attention
If it's the middle of summer, it must be time for ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue, a celebration of athletes' bodies and the vast potential of the human form. This year, like it or not, the magazine includes the Texas Rangers' own Prince Fielder.
Fielder, who's out for the season after having surgery for a herniated disk, appears naked save for a batting glove and a bat, showing off his heavily tattooed body and ample gut. "You don't have to look like an Under Armour mannequin to be an athlete," Fielder quips in the interview. Since the issue debuted, Fielder has received national attention from outlets such as Washington Post, Deadspin and USA Today for his bold portrait.
Fielder is one of more than 20 athletes from multiple sports to appear in the 2014 edition, including Venus Williams, Michael Phelps, Larry Fitzgerald and Dallas' own Omar Gonzalez, who just finished playing for the United States in the World Cup.
This is the sixth Body Issue ESPN has put out, with previous editions including former Rangers Nelson Cruz and Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez.
If you want to see all of the athletes in this year's issue — and of course you do — head on over to ESPN.com/bodyissue.
