Dog missing from California found in Austin 4 years later

Rome and his family have been reunited after a long separation.

A dog from California who was found in Austin in February has been reunited with his family, four years after going missing.

Local shelter Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) said English bulldog Rome was found tied to the gate of its Tarrytown location with no identifying information, alongside a small Chihuahua.

Rome was found to be double microchipped, and APA! was able to track down his original owners, who were “stunned and overjoyed” to learned their pet had been found alive and safe in Texas.

APA! said Rome’s owners had searched tirelessly since he went missing from his backyard in January 2021, posting flyers, knocking on doors and filing police reports.

This month, his owners drove over 1,000 miles to come to Austin and bring Rome home.

“The reunion was emotional, tearful and full of joy,” APA! said. “Today, Rome is officially back with the family that never stopped loving him, and he’s on his way back to California to start his next chapter – right where he belongs.”
