A purrfect rescue: Austin Fire Department saves cat in most adorable story
Let's start our Monday off with some good news, shall we?
On Sunday, October 11, members of the Austin Fire Department responded to a call of a cat stuck in a drain near the University Lutheran Church on San Antonio Street. A small black cat was wedged in a pipe and unable to free herself. Patient members of the AFD tried for two hours to coax the cat out before getting permission from the church to cut the concrete, according to department's Facebook page.
"The ingenious part was how the crews were able to pull apart the pavers to access the concrete, place a protective curtain between the area they were cutting and the cat and make a cut that was just big enough to remove the cat, but ... minimize the damage to the drainage pipe," said the department. The cat was removed from the pipe unharmed and the crew then replaced the concrete.
But the story gets even cuter. After her ordeal, the cat, now known as "Piper," was brought to Austin Vet Care and found to be healthy, but without identification. Lucky for Piper, one of her rescuers, a lieutenant with the AFD and cat lover, offered to make her a permanent part of his family. A purrfect ending to the story.
