NEW YORK — New Zealand-born designer Rebecca Taylor always has her target customer in mind: Young, feminine-with-an-edge, and fun. Her spring 2014 collection has plenty of options for the cool girls to wear (Girl's co-star Zosia Mamet was in the front row of the runway show), with looks that combine athletic styles with flirty touches.
Taylor, who is known for a "feminine tomboy aesthetic," features low-slung trousers that resemble upscale track pants, bonded mesh hoodies and bomber jackets of rubberized terrycloth fabric. She also showcases one of spring's hottest trends — perforated leather — in "waffle" blazers, bombers, T-shirts and dresses.
But if that sounds all too high-tech, Taylor adds lace touches to vests, cropped jackets and tunics. Dresses and pantsuits in a blurry floral pattern and a pink leather bomber vest adorned with roses also soften up the hard edges.
Taylor rounds out the collection with a number of "summer white" looks — poplin dresses, cropped sweaters and pleated skirts — that never go out of style, and boyfriend blazers galore.
