Prepare to paw-ty at POP Cats 2018, Austin's first cat-only convention
Grab the coolest cat you know and prepare to paw-ty. POP Cats, an epic, two-day convention celebrating all things feline is coming to the Palmer Events Center on August 25-26. Billed as Texas' first cat and pop culture convention, POP Cats creates an "immersive feline universe where humans can shop, learn, adopt, play, and connect with the spirited cat community," according to a release.
Attendees can expect a lineup featuring feline experts and influencers, live music, food and "cat-tails," and artists and vendors from across Texas. According to a POP Cats PR rep, the full lineup will be released in April.
As to be expected, the fun isn't for humans only. The convention will feature special cat-friendly play areas, and the Austin Humane Society will be onsite throughout the weekend showcasing adoptable pets. There are a few rules though if your feline wants to take part. All cats must be current on vaccinations, must be on a harness or in a carrier, and absolutely no dogs allowed.
POP Cats is the brainchild of siblings Edgar Alexander and Johana Flores, who debuted the event in Miami in 2017. For the convention's second meeting, the duo scoured the U.S. to find the purrfect location for 2018.
“From the moment you arrive, Austinites warm your heart with genuine kindness," said Alexander in a release. "The city’s creative spirit is evident in the beautiful public art around town and being home to long-standing no-kill animal shelters is proof that its residents are also passionate about pets.”
Early bird (get it?) tickets are on sale now through March 31 and are available here. Artists, vendors, and potential volunteers who would pawsitively love to take part can find more information and register here.
