Want to rock the vote? Registration for the November general election closes atmidnight
Tuesday is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 6 general election, which, among other offices, will determine the next President of the United States.
Volunteers have been out all over town asking you if you've already registered, and they will still be out until midnight tonight, including at all area ThunderCloud Subs locations. If you can't find any official registration centers, however, you can always head over to your local library or state office or download a voter registration form from VoteTexas.
Forms filled out on-site must be turned in to officials by midnight and printed forms must be postmarked by 5 p.m. in order to be eligible.
Afterward, you'll be mailed a voter registration certificate with your name, address and voter precinct clearly labeled. That will help you to know where you should go on Nov. 6, depending on the voting sites that will be made available in the Austin American-Statesman and online on Nov. 3.
The Travis County Tax Office can also answer most of your registration, polling and voting questions. If you can't remember if you registered already, for example, they can tell you in one quick click. If you don't know which precinct you're in, they can send you a new voter registration card.
You don't need us to remind you how important it is to get out and vote at election time, especially for the general election for the office of the President. There is, after all, an end goal to the entire political process beyond providing sound bites for comedy shows and crazy people.
While you may be dissatisfied with how things are being run in this country, you should recall that apathy has the power to make it even worse. Don't continue to let a minority of Americans determine our representation: help to form the majority who made history happen.
Consider yourself empowered, Austin. Now go register!
