Fall Date Ideas
Sex and the Capital City: Fall in love with fall with these autumnal date ideas
After months of maligning the heat, autumn is finally upon us! You know what that means – six weeks of sweaters, cider, and sitting outside with your sweetie.
But with the impending holiday season, it’s easy to overlook this pre-winter window we so scarcely get to enjoy. So here are some things that you can do with your special someone to really make the most of these milder temps.
24th Annual Dolce Vita Food and Wine Festival
Thursday, October 24 — 6 pm
Laguna Gloria is inarguably one of Austin’s most beautiful locales, and what better way to savor it than by enjoying the best food and wine that Texas offers? Enjoy libations from more than 50 restaurants and wineries from Austin and across Texas will be represented at the festival, including Foreign & Domestic, Jeffrey's & Josephine House, Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Ranch 616, and more.
Now through November 10
Who says corn mazes and pumpkin patches are just for kids? Live your wildest Pinterest fantasy with this highly Instagrammable adventure. And if you have kids, bring ‘em along. They can enjoy games, rides, local vendors, and even farm animals.
2013 Texas Monthly BBQ Festival
Sunday, November 3 —12 pm
Nothing says fall like some smoked meats, right? Throw manners out the window and stuff your face with Texas’ top 50 barbecue masters who are ready and willing to show off their slow-cooking skills. Maybe you can even pick up a tip or two for a cozy dinner at home.
November 8-10
Enjoy an eclectic variety of music at Austin City Limits Festival's seedier, younger (and some may argue hipper) brother, Fun Fun Fun Fest. Don't you want to see how the Great Taco Cannon War ends? In addition to surprisingly awesome headliners (Ice-T, Snoopzilla, Tenacious D), comedy greats like Sarah Silverman and Patton Oswalt will also take the stage.
Homeslice Pizza’s Eighth Annual Carnival of Pizza
Saturday, November 16 —12 pm
Okay, so fall equals eating. Lots of eating. Get over it. This annual celebration of everyone’s favorite food is back with its usual gluttonous style. Home Slice will thank the community with carnival games, music, dancing, photo booths and competitions. Contests include "Hands on an Eggplant Sub," pizza eating, dough throwing and pizza box folding.
Broadway in Austin Presents: Chicago
November 19-24
Bob Fosse’s dance moves are just one of things that make this long-running musical so great. Seinfeld’s John O’Hurley stars in this touring adaptation of the Grammy, Tony, Oscar, and Olivier award-winning musical.
Brunch in the Hotel San Jose Courtyard
Saturday, November 23 — 10 am
Grab your special someone and some friends to enjoy brunch, live music, and a special menu (think secret bacon recipe!) at this rarely held affair. As a bonus, this is one of Austin’s most celebrity-laden spots, so you may find yourself brunching with the Austin bourgeois.
There you have it! Enjoy some of fall’s finest offerings while taking in some quality time with the one you love most. Because before you know it, you’ll be inundated with family gatherings, drunk uncles, and enough turkey to keep you busy until the new year.
