Weekday Warrior: Happy Halloween! Now, what?
It may seem like Halloween festivities have been brewing (see what we did there?) for weeks, but the day is finally upon us. The week certainly kicks off with a scare, but what about the candy-fueled days that follow? There’s a show from your favorite shellfish-loving rockers, a few funny females, and even a trip down memory lane with your fellow Twi-hards. How ever will you decide? Here’s our weekly guide to keep you busy during the days that don’t start with S.
Monday, October 31st
Get in on the ultimate in hip costumery, as The W hosts not only a live costume contest, but an online battle over on their Facebook page. It's worth the trouble, though—the grand prize package includes a weekend stay at the W Austin, dinner for two at TRACE and AWAY spa goodies.
Exploision: Zombie @ Alamo Ritz
Catch a special screening of the masterpiece that came to define Italian director Lucio Fulci as the "Godfather of Gore" (sorry, George Romero), and explored a more gruesome take on the zombie genre.

Sarah Silverman and Friends: Live from N*****head @ Paramount Theater
Say what you will about Sarah Silverman, but she's nothing if not a boundary-pusher. In this, she takes our Governor-turned-Presidential candidate down a peg or two, stating “This is a never forget moment. The show's provocative name holds a mirror up to an ugliness that seems to have become yesterday's news without having barely even made news.” Silverman's known for her famous friends, so this is sure to be a "see and be seen" event.
Twilight Saga Tuesdays: TWILIGHT @ Cinemark Cedar Park
Re-live the beginning of Bella and Edward’s tale of teenage vampire love, in anticipation of the November 18th release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Pt. 1. Contains new clips and interviews from the film.
Wednesday, November 2nd
The Miles Davis Experience @ Bass Concert Hall
This multimedia experience honors the life and legacy of one of jazz’s greatest names, featuring celebrated trumpet player and winner of the 2007 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, Ambrose Akinmusire, with his Quintet. Images from the icon’s recording sessions and candid personal life accompany the narrative, driven by spoken word.
You’re WHAT?! Keep that tin roof rusted with an evening that’s sure to be a rockin’ good time, lobsters or no. The now apostrophe-free rockers return to Austin to bring their brand of nostalgic rock to Stubb’s outdoor amphitheater.
Thursday, November 3rd
Joan Rivers @ Paramount Theater
She may have made a name for herself for her countless trips under the knife, but Joan Rivers is one heck of a comedienne, and her act (what should be considered a master class in storytelling) shouldn’t be missed.
Taste of Home Cooking School and Expo @ Austin Music Hall
Have some fun, learn some things, and eat some food, at this first annual event, hosted by Majic 95.5’s Alex O’Neil and Terri McCormick, along with Taste of Home culinary specialist Jamie Dunn. In addition to a 2-hour step-by-step cooking lesson, prizes, professionals, and personalities will be there in droves.
