Kids in Austin's Rosedale neighborhood can play in new ways at Ramsey Neighborhood Park, thanks to a project that poured more than $91,000 into the playground. The City of Austin celebrated the renovation at a ribbon cutting on Friday, August 28.

Ramsey Neighborhood Park is bounded by West 42nd and 44th Streets, plus Rosedale Avenue and Burnet Road. The park also has a summer swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, picnic areas, and more.

The newly completed project updated the play structure for kids aged 5-12, added new play components, and setting up a new swingset. Both the play structure and swingset are new, and have replaced existing equipment. They now have their own shade structures attached. The project also upgraded the safety surfacing, a press release says.

Austin Parks Foundation contributed the $91,000 to purchase the equipment as part of its "shade match" program that matches the City's budget for increasing shade around town. It also provided project management services, according to the release. Austin Parks and Recreation contributed funds for the rubber surfacing and monitored project construction. The two organizations also worked with the Rosedale Neighborhood Association to make sure the work reflected the community's needs and character.

The play structure includes multiple slides, a spiral climber, and engagement panels on the side of the structure, including a steering wheel and gear shifts. All those elements have carried over from the previous design, and a few more elements have been added in previously unused space.
