If you plan on going out to celebrate New Year's Eve, you can rest easy knowing that AAA Texas is sponsoring complimentary rides and tows home for those of us who end up partying a little harder than planned.
"Tipsy Tow service is available to members and non-members. Ask for a Tipsy Tow by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP [222-4357]. Keep in mind, the service will only provide transportation to a home or hotel, not to any other location."
The "No-Refusal" initiative, which allows APD to conduct blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to give a breath or blood specimen, will be enforced on December 30 and December 31, beginning at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.
AAA's program, dubbed "Tipsy Tow," will only be available on New Year's Eve but is open to members and non-members.
Each state has differed on how far the the complimentary ride can take you, but according to a AAA representative, the Austin service will pick up two passengers and provide a ride and vehicle tow up to seven miles from the point of pick up. Keep in mind, the service will only provide transportation to a home or hotel, not to any other location. You can ask for a Tipsy Tow by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP (222-4357).
Austin's Capital Metro is also throwing their hat in the ring to provide safe transportation during the holiday weekend. You can catch free rides home from Austin's entertainment district on any of the six Night Owl routes, which run every 30-60 minutes from midnight to 3 a.m.
There is, of course, the other option of appointing a designated driver or calling for a cab. Whichever option you choose, just remember to be safe, Austinites.
