Party in my plants
South Austin Beer Garden hosts 'Texas' biggest plant event'
If you haven’t botany plants lately, Memorial Day weekend could be the perfect time to find your new best bud. South Austin Beer Garden, whose tagline is “way South, way better,” will host an Austin Plant Party on Saturday, May 25, from 12:30-5 pm.
The self-proclaimed “Texas’ biggest plant event” will be a specially-curated market featuring some of the best local and independent plant shops, pottery makers, propagators, collectors, and artists. Guests can browse the wares of local vendors while enjoying drinks from the beer garden, which is located at 10700 Menchaca Rd.
According to Instagram, the event is part of a wider series called City Plant Party, which has upcoming dates in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Indianapolis, and beyond. The barebones website is fairly nondescript, but there are slightly more details on this individual Instagram post and on Eventbrite.
A $5 general admission grants entry at 12:30 pm, while $15 VIP ticket holders will gain early access at 12 pm. An additional $15 at checkout for either ticket earns attendees a limited run event poster featuring a gorgeous plant blossoming out of a Texas flag-emblazoned boot.

The Eventbrite description says the party will cater “to the extensive plant community of Austin and surrounding area. From rookie plant parents to hard core collectors, this market will have something for everybody.”
So far, participating vendors listed on the above social media post include Artiflora, ATX Terrariums, Eden House Botanicals, El Huisache Nursery, Earthly Ideas, FireProof Plants, The Green Room ATX, Hector Kriete, Hermans Plant Co., Island Dreaming Plant Co., Jade Greenhouse, Keep Austin Dreaming, Ms Moss Potter, Osborn Succulents, The Planting Hand, Rachel Robin, Rad Rootz, Rosie’s Plant Care, Shamrockgirl World Dragon Fruits, Sunny Lane Succulents, Wild Native Creations, and Wild Vim.
Head to Eventbrite to learn more, snag your ticket, and perhaps be one of the lucky few to claim that limited run poster. Be quick, though: It seems like kind of a big dill, and you don’t want to run out of thyme.
