family-friendly city
Austin suburb named one of the best places to live by Fortune Magazine
The "Sports Capital of Texas" is here to play ball as one of the best places to live for American families, according to a new report by Fortune Magazine.
Round Rock (No. 12) was the only Texas city to make the list for 2023, which is a major improvement from Fortune's previous report in 2022. While the North Austin suburb didn't appear in last year's report, none of the three Texas cities that did made an appearance in the current one: Wylie, Sugar Land, and San Marcos.
Round Rock has a lot going for it in terms of family-friendly opportunities: the city opened its new, three-story public library building in January, and was named one of the best cities for remote workers in 2022.
In addition to the many sports facilities in the city, like the Dell Diamond and Round Rock Sports Center, Fortune also recognizes the city's school districts and its 95.1 percent high school graduation rate.
"Today’s Round Rock residents can enjoy a town steeped in history, with modern conveniences — and they have more than 60 schools in the district to choose from," the report says. "Half of these facilities have received above-average ratings. In a district that houses more than 50,000 students, that’s saying something."
Though none of the top 10 best places to live are in Texas, the report does show a wide variety of cities from around the country.
Fortune's top 10 best places to live for families in the U.S. are:
- No. 1 – Cambridge, Massachusetts
- No. 2 – Portsmouth, New Hampshire
- No. 3 – Silver Spring, Maryland
- No. 4 – Tualatin, Oregon
- No. 5 – Middletown, Delaware
- No. 6 – Olathe, Kansas
- No. 7 – Eastvale, California
- No. 8 – Wellington, Florida
- No. 9 – Greenburgh, New York
- No. 10 – Fitchburg, Wisconsin
