HBO McConaughey-starring series True Detective writer turns to Texas for next project
Nic Pizzolatto — writer, creator and executive producer of the new HBO series, True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson — is currently working on turning his award-winning novel, Galveston, into a film.
New York-based Jean Doumanian Productions who will be making a movie version of the book.
Galveston follows Roy Cady, a low-level New Orleans crime enforcer, after he finds out that his boss wants him dead. Along with an 18-year-old girl, Rocky, who he rescues, Cady flees to Galveston — picking up Rocky's 3-year-old sister in Orange along the way — all on the eve of 2008's Hurricane Ike. Their journey is a dark and treacherous one, and their safety is never certain.
Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts, known for his Golden Globe-nominated role in Rust and Bone, is set to star in the lead role of Cady, but the film's female star has yet to be determined.
The locations for filming have not been announced, but since Orange and Galveston are integral to the story, Texas is likely to see film crews for Galveston, possibly as soon as this spring. Galveston officials are already making a push to ensure the island is filmed on.
