2014 Out of Bounds Comedy Festival: Thursday, August 28 – Monday, September 1
Out of Bounds celebrates the best of improv, sketch and stand-up comedy with more than 500 entertainers performing 130 shows across town. This year's featured performers include comics from shows including Key & Peele, Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, making for an eclectic mix of talent from across the globe. You can still grab individual tickets to most of the other great shows occurring this weekend.
Austin Music People's Second Annual United We Jam: Friday, August 29 – Saturday, August 30
Austin Music People supports one of our most cherished attributes — live music. Join other music lovers for a two-night celebration hosted at multiple venues across town (from hole-in-the-walls like Carousel Lounge to downtown icons like Stubb's). The event not only raises money for AMP, it also serves as a major voter registration drive.
First Annual RAS Day at Kenny Dorham's Backyard: Saturday, August 30
Last year, the City of Austin proclaimed August 29 to be Riders Against the Storm Day. The husband-and-wife hip-hop duo will celebrate that special anniversary with a free day of activities that include yoga workshops, massage therapy, acupuncture and a diverse selection of musicians from the Austin area.
Texas Longhorns vs. UNT Mean Green: Saturday, August 30
The Texas Longhorns begin a new season and usher in the Strong Era on Saturday. We're not expecting a major upset by the North Texas Mean Green, but the game should give us a solid idea of what to expect from Charlie Strong. If you don't have tickets to the game, you have plenty of options for where to watch all over town.
Long Center Open House: Sunday, August 31
Join the Long Center for all-access backstage tours, special ticket offers, free performances, kids’ activities, food and more. The day’s activities will include live and video introductions to resident companies including Austin Lyric Opera, Austin Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Austin, Austin Shakespeare, Conspirare, Pollyanna Theatre and Tapestry Dance Company.
Labor Day Luau Pig Roast at Gibson Street Bar: Sunday, August 31
This Labor Day Luau benefits Habitat for Humanity. Special party perks for the luau include a giant waterslide, raffle prizes, drink specials and a delicious pig roast.
NXNW 15th Anniversary Party: Sunday, August 31
NXNW celebrates its 15th anniversary this weekend. The true Austin celebration features music from Slow Train and Warren Hood, and a special tapping of NXNW Beerliner Weisse, Darkside Cascadian Dark Ale and the rest of NXNW's classic brews. A $2 suggested donation will also benefit 1400 Miles and Pints for Prostates.
Rattle Rager Labor Day Weekend Party: Sunday, August 31
If you're in town for Labor Day weekend, head over to The Rattle Inn for live music from Hello Wheels, Patrick's Beard and The Rusty Razors, and Mayeux and Broussard. Enjoy drink specials that include $2 Mimosas, $4 Bloody Marys, $4 Fireball and $5 Jameson.
2014 Austin Free Day of Yoga: Monday, September 1
Many local yoga studios will offer free classes on Monday.
