Best of 2012
Culture Poll: Vote for the best new music venue of 2012
2012 was a year of change for the music venue in Austin. We closed 2011 with goodbyes to Momo's and Emo's, and started 2012 anew by heading east to discover the second comings of some of Austin's favorite Red River haunts.
As the year wraps up, we're taking the opportunity to take the temperature of Austin, and this week we want to know which new music venue of 2012 rocked for our readers.
Emo's East moved into its giant Michael Hsu-designed digs, with Beauty Bar settling in next door on East Riverside as Beauty Ballroom. Holy Mountain then reclaimed Beauty Bar's roots, emerging as a more "adult" Red River venue in October.
And in perhaps the oddest remakes of the year, Red 7 moonlighted as Vita Hill Social Club for three months, while Headhunters got a steampunk-inspired makeover by Spike TV for an episode airing in February.
Which do you think is the best new music venue of 2012? Cast your vote here daily, between now and December 20, and you could be rewarded handsomely.
One lucky winner will get a pair of VIP tickets to Beauty Ballroom's New Year's Eve party, featuring Grupo Fantasma with Foot Patrol.
