Stonebwoy and Lila Iké lead blockbuster lineup for 2024 Austin Reggae Festival
A long-running music festival dedicated to feeding hungry families in Central Texas is aiming to host its biggest bash yet. The Austin Reggae Festival is returning to Auditorium Shores from April 19-21.
The 2024 festivities will feature music performances by more than a dozen artists from Texas, California, Jamaica, Ghana, and Italy. Attendees can also shop from the festival's artisan vendor market featuring local clothing retailers, jewelry makers, and more; there'll also be plenty of food and drink vendors.
Friday's music headliners include Ghaninan musician Stonebwoy and Toronto-based reggae band The Human Rights. Jamaican singer Lila Iké and Italian reggae artist Alborosie will headline on Saturday, and Sunday's headlining acts will include Junior Marvin & The Legendary Wailers and The Original Soul Syndicate. Jah Ray will serve as the weekend's emcee.
The three-day festival began as a one-day event in 1994 to commemorate the legacy of reggae icon Bob Marley. While the show admission was free, attendees were asked to donate two cans of non-perishable food to the Central Texas Food Bank (formerly known as the Capital Area Food Bank). So many donations were received, the fest's website says, that a U-Haul had to be rented to collect them all for donation.
A longstanding partnership was then created between the Austin Reggae Festival and the Central Texas Food Bank. Within the last five years alone, the festival has helped provide over 2.5 million meals to Texans in need in Travis County and beyond, according to a press release.
A portion of 2024 ticket sales from the festival will be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank, and attendees will be able to make donations directly to the food bank throughout the weekend.
