Ben Kweller to play Amplify LIVE, plus more Austin music picks for late April
The back half of April is packed with festivals – Austin Psych Fest, Austin Blues Festival, and Austin Reggae Fest – and while those events are certainly worth your time, you should also take note of the many great local shows that are on the calendar as well. See here for recommendations.
Amplify Live at the Scoot Inn – Thursday, April 18
Amplify Live, which benefits I Live Here I Give Here, is happening at the Scoot Inn this Thursday, April 18. The always great Ben Kweller is set to headline the event, and support for it will be provided by Kalu and The Electric Joint and TheBrosFresh. Tickets are $35.
The Juniper Berries at Cheer Up Charlie’s – Friday, April 19
The Juniper Berries will put out their new album, Death and Taxes, this Friday, April 19, and then they’ll celebrate its release that same night at Cheer Up Charlie’s. The psych-pop band will be joined by Batty Jr, The Stacks, and Gilded Lows. Cover for this loaded lineup will be $10 at the door.
Hemp Fest at ABGB – Saturday, April 20
Ring in 4/20 at Hemp Fest, located at ABGB this Saturday. The free event features a dance-worthy bill that includes TC Superstar, Candy Riot, DJ Beats of Burden, and Ranky Dank. You can also expect an outdoor market, food specials, and more.
Booher at the Mohawk – Thursday, April 25
Booher will have their indie rock ways (along with songs off their impending new album) on display at the Mohawk on Thursday, April 25. Be sure to show up early so that you can also see Blood Pumps, Lynzi, and Tiny House. Tickets for the show are $12.
Briscoe at Stubb’s – Friday, April 26
Americana upstarts Briscoe will headline Stubb’s on Friday, April 26. The band, who put out their debut album, West of It All, in September of last year, will be joined by Coleman Jennings. Tickets for the show are $22.50. By the way, indie pop act Montclair will play Stubb’s Indoors afterwards – just flash your wristband from the Briscoe show to get in for free.
Tomar & The FCs at the Continental Club – Saturday, April 27
If you’re into soul music, then make sure you go and see Tomar & The FCs at the Continental Club on Saturday, April 27. Go Machine will kick off the evening. There are no advance tickets here; The cover will be $15 at the door.
