May is here, and with it comes a whole slew of great local shows. See below for what to catch in the first part of the month.
Kalu & The Electric Joint at the Paramount – Thursday, May 4
Fresh off the release of their long-awaited new album, Garden of Eden, Kalu and The Electric Joint will play The Paramount this Thursday, May 4. Kam Franklin (of The Suffers) will open for the psychedelic soul act, and you can expect a special guest appearance from Jackie Venson. Tickets for the show range from $20-25.
The Octopus Project at the Parish – Friday, May 5
It’s a busy week for the experimental vets of The Octopus Project. They’ve got a new EP full of covers, I Want Vikram, coming out, and they’ll be live at the Parish this Friday, May 5. Fuck Money and Galactic Protector will kick off the evening. Tickets for the show are $15.
Wild Child at Emo’s – Friday, May 5
Wild Child are in the midst of touring in support of their recently released fifth album, End Of The World, and the hometown show is set for this Friday, May 5. The indie pop act will be joined by Próxima Parada. Tickets are $25 each.
Megafauna at Sagebrush – Saturday, May 6
Prog rock fans should make their way to Sagebrush this Saturday, May 6, to ring in the release of Megafauna’s new album, Olympico. Holy Death Trio, The Dead Coats, and DJ Dead Flowers round out the rest of the bill. Tickets for the show are $10.
Buffalo Hunt at Feels So Good – Thursday, May 11
Feels So Good will host Buffalo Hunt (aka singer/songwriter Stephanie Hunt) on Thursday, May 11. Tearjerk, who just put out a new EP, and The Naps will open the show. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 the day of the show, and they include complimentary beverages.
