Doing Lots of Things
Austin's signature athletic brand scores $34 million for new stores and styles
The world of Outdoor Voices permeates the Austin landscape — chances are you've seen fellow Austinites clad in the fashion brand's signature tri-tone leggings. Perhaps you've visited the Clarksville shop, noticed the company's billboards on South Congress, or just snagged a custom tote during one of the many OV-sponsored events around Austin.
Since opening in 2014, the Austin-based apparel company has become the go-to recreation brand for locals and celebrities alike. With its royal blue hats and instantly recognizable gear, most OV fans are drawn to the company in equal parts for its athletic wear and ethos, both of which are encapsulated by the brand's slogan: Doing Things.
Now, Silicon Valley is betting that ethos will resonate globally. On March 13, CNBC reported that the company has secured $34 million dollars in series C funding, led in part by GV (formerly Google Ventures). The multimillion-dollar funding will allow Outdoor Voices to expand its physical footprint with more stores and help OV design apparel options beyond its current collection.
Currently, Outdoor Voices has seven stores in the U.S., including its Blanco Street flagship and one in Dallas. According to CNBC, Outdoor Voices plans to open at least five more shops before the end of 2018.
"We're focused on building the No. 1 digital active brand," OV founder Tyler Haney told CNBC in an interview. Haney, who splits her time between New York City and Austin, has become a star in her own right. In the past few weeks alone, the savvy CEO has been featured in Vogue and even landed on the cover of the Spring 2018 issue of Domino.
