Unless you have connections, it's practically impossible to attend a runway show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. But American Express has hit upon a way to allow exclusive access to its cardholders — for a price.
On Sept. 13, the last day of fashion week, AmEx is hosting a runway show by designer Rachel Zoe at New York's Lincoln Center. The wafer-thin Hollywood stylist who shot to stardom in a Bravo reality series will showcase her spring 2013 collection exclusively for American Express cardholders. Cocktails will precede the show and afterwards, the designer will take part in a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Zoe created a fashion frenzy when she launched her first collection last year and inked a lucrative deal with Chinese retail giant Li & Fung. But lately, sales of the boho/'70s-inspired collection haven't been great, reports the New York Post. " Like any clothing line, it ebbs and flows, but we’re very happy with the apparel sales,” Alan Chartash, chief strategy officer for Li & Fung USA, told the newspaper.
Chartash noted that, in addition to apparel, Zoe has launched footwear and a handbag line in the past year and will soon launch a line of jewelry exclusively with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.
Face time with Zoe remains highly popular as front row tickets to the special AmEx runway show were quickly gobbled up at $250 each. Tickets at $150 for rows 2-6 and $75 for rows 7 and 8 remain at the AmEx website.
Throughout fashion week, which takes place Sept. 7-13, American Express is offering its Gold Card members access to the skybox at Lincoln Center to watch back-to-back shows, including Diane von Furstenberg and Custo Barcelona on Sept. 9 and Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang on Sept. 11.
All of the skybox packages are sold out for this season; among fashion fans planning to attend are a sizeable group of Texas AmEx card holders.
In addition to the American Express show, Zoe is showcasing her spring 2013 line for the fashion press and invited guests on Sept. 12.
