Head-to-head, heel-to-heel: Two Austin designers to compete on NBC's FashionStar this spring
We've got two gals representing the Lone Star State — specifically, the Capital City — on NBC's second season ofFashion Star. And from what we can decipher through their designs, they couldn't be more different.
NBC announced last week that Amber Perley of Pearl Southern Couture and Priscilla Barroso of Crowned Bird are two of the 13 designers going head-to-head in the hopes of winning the multimillion dollar prize of launching their own clothing line with either Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue or Express.
For a few years now, Perley has received rave reviews from Dallas publications for her demure, preppy frocks. Barroso made a splash this fall with her debut Crowned Bird lookbook, which boasts a playful, eclectic, vintage point of view.
Where Barroso is inspired by her Panamanian heritage, fanciful family and quirky dreams, Perley zeros in on the traditional American South, honoring cities like New Orleans, Nashville and Savannah with her pieces.
Bubbly Brit Louise Roe takes the place of Elle Macpherson as this season's host, and the celebrity mentors remain Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos.
We predict that if the celeb mentors pick their favorites, Nicole Richie will be the one to fawn over Barroso's high-waisted skirts and motmots, while Jessica Simpson will be aflutter in response to Perley's modern Southern Belle flare.
To see how the Texas ladies fare, you'll have to wait until the season kicks off on March 8, 2013.
