Austin is sparkling with the addition of two new jewelry stores — one moving from its Austin birthplace, and one expanding in for the first time from not too far away.

Both Korman Fine Jewelry and Zadok Jewelers will be showing off spaces designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, a go-to for iconic Austin institutions like P. Terry's, restaurants by Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole (together and separately), and Westlake Dermatology.

Korman has operated in Austin since its inception in 1973. An official groundbreaking for the new store at 2901 N. Lamar Blvd. will take place January 25. So far no opening date is set, but the current location on Burnet Road will close after the move.

Renderings show a large, split-level showroom over 10,000 square feet, looking a bit like a museum with a welcome desk and austere display cases with plenty of room between them. A release points out that the design "preserv[es] the original footprint of the building," which formerly housed the University Cyclery.

The new store will feature designs by Single Stone, FOPE, Messika, Jade Trau, Walters Faith and Viltier, Rolex, Tudor, Blancpain, and more. A quick browse through the store's existing inventory includes mostly timeless pieces — whether the style is more traditional or very contemporary — with simple silhouettes and the occasional nod to Texas. Prices range from a few thousand dollars to the equivalent of an Austin starter home.

The other forthcoming store is part of Zadok Jewelers, by way of Houston. This is Zadok's first location in Austin, where — like Korman — it will carry fine jewelry and watches.

This store is also joining the North Austin landscape, at The Domain, which has recently been significantly ramping up its luxury offerings, including other watch stores. Rounding out the similarities, Zadok is also nearly 50 years old, having been founded in 1976.

Zadok's inventory shows off some more avant garde and colorful pieces alongside its obligatory solitaire rings. It's led by the Zadok collection, which combines pop iconography (stars, butterflies, and hearts) with more staple pieces in varying styles.

A press release that discussed the new store at The Domain did not share the square footage, but the flagship in Houston is nothing less than gigantic at 28,000 square feet, including four watch boutiques, luxury brand spaces, bars, sitting areas, and a lounge.

Zadok is expected to open at The Domain "this year."
