Dynamic style duo transforms Austin high-rise for haute art party
In a unique twist on the traditional pop-up, Lana Carlson and Leslie Gossett recently staged a temporary art gallery in The Sky Lounge of The Catherine Tower in Austin.
Filling the space with bold, vibrant pieces from artists that hailed from all around the globe, the duo — which goes by the moniker House of L — transformed the venue and made it the must-attend event of the weekend, which just happened to be the first of Austin Art Month.
They did it in partnership with Kuper Sotheby's International Realty, for which Gossett is a broker associate, as well as Christopher Investment Company (which owns and manages The Catherine) and the modern Italian supper club Sophia's.
Guests sipped specialty cocktails created by Gem & Bolt mezcal and grooved to a live set performance by DJ Swaylo while enjoying the works of such notable artists as local award-winning musician Bob Schneider, Ysabel LeMay, Brandon Mike, Caitlin G. McCollom, the LA-based French artist Ugo Nonis, and Las Vegas' Mallory Dawn.
The plan is to expand these pop-ups in the coming year, appearing in Miami, Aspen, Los Angeles, and Dallas, and bringing together art lovers from all walks of life in exceptionally beautiful properties, curated with art from around the world.
"We created House of L to produce exceptional pop-up art events for our clients and partners across the country," says Carlson. "At House of L, we bring together culture, worldly people, unparalleled art, unique music, and specially curated food and beverage for a weekend experience to remember."
This pop-up at The Catherine Tower was a sneak peek prior to House of L's official launch. Carlson (who was curator and co-founder of the POP Austin international art show) and Gossett (broker associate at Kuper Sotheby's and founder of L Design & Staging) developed the company as a way to combine their individual passions and strengths in high-end art and luxury real estate. The result is a multi-city pop-up showcase concept that benefits both artists and home sellers alike.
"I've watched Leslie and Lana's immaculate work for the last few years," says Kuper Sotheby's International Realty president J Kuper. "The quality of art and events they put together and incredible dedication to their projects perfectly aligns with our Sotheby's brand. Their fresh and creative approach to these events, organization, and relationships with emerging creatives from around the world truly makes for an unforgettable and fulfilling experience for everyone involved."
