Fitting Right In
How these cool condos took care to fit into their East Austin neighborhood
When you have a neighborhood as cool and established as Govalle in East Austin, everyone's nightmare is that a new housing complex will come in and completely destroy the vibe.
Luckily, Pearlstone Partners took care to learn about and respect the area when it built HÅŒM, the brand-new condominiums that are going up at 3101 Govalle. The homes, which range from studio to three-bedroom, were conceived with East Austin specifically in mind.
Pearlstone's director of design, Brian Tucker, chose a Scandinavian farmhouse design palette and structure to more closely resemble the surrounding homes on the street.
He also worked with an arborist to try to save as many of the existing trees on the property as possible. Unfortunately, most of the trees were sick or posed a potential hazard, so Pearlstone is planting new trees to bring healthy greenery back to this part of the neighborhood.
Partnerships with local businesses is also high on the list. Ghost Pepper Glass, a local glass-blowing shop, will be providing hand-blown light fixtures to hang in the amenity center.
Several local shops, including Son of a Sailor, Dimension Art Gallery, Ghost Pepper Glass, Austin EastCiders, and Friends and Allies Brewing, were featured in a commercial for the project (you can watch it below).
At HÅŒM's launch party, one lucky attendee won a bike from EastSide Pedal Pushers. The goal is to continue working closely with businesses in the area to support and uplift the local community as HÅŒM becomes a part of it.
"The housing market in Austin is changing," says Robert Lee, CEO and principal of Pearlstone Partners. "With so many people looking to live closer to the city, innovative housing solutions are becoming increasingly important. While we believe that high density housing provides a much needed benefit, we also want to make sure that we are respectful of the existing communities we build in and become a positive part of those neighborhoods."
One more thing that sets HÅŒM apart is its price point. As real estate demand continues to grow in Austin, HÅŒM condos start out in the low $200s. Attainable housing is something that Pearlstone Partners has been leading the way in since 2013, when it built its first attainable housing complex.
