Soon you'll be able to satisfy your sweet tooth with a new, but familiar, dessert destination in South Austin. Quack's 43rd Street Bakery will open a location on Manchaca Road this summer.
The iconic Hyde Park bakery excitedly announced the plans on Facebook this week. "We just signed the lease for our second location to be open this summer! Check us out at 5326 Manchaca Road 78745! Captain Quackenbush's Coffeehouse and Bakery."
Widely acknowledged as Austin's first coffee bar, Captain Quackenbush's Intergalactic Dessert Company and Espresso Cafe opened on The Drag in 1983. The name has been shortened, and the bakery now resides in Hyde Park. In 2015, it expanded to include The Cakery, located next door.
The announcement also teased the opening of the Austin Soundroom, located at 5330 Manchaca Rd. Details are scarce about the new venture from the Quack's team, but the concept will open in the former Strange Brew space. Strange Brew, the combination coffee joint and music venue, abruptly shuttered earlier this year after a dramatic lockout.
Stay tuned for more information about the opening as additional tidbits are released.
