Save It for a Rainy Day
Your guide to the perfect Austin bars for rainy days
When the weather gets rough, it's time to grab a drink. In light of our recent forecast, we've rounded up some of the best spots to hit up when the rain comes. We chose venues for their ample indoor seating and inherent coziness, with special consideration given to nearby parking.
The White Horse
Bad weather got you sopping wet? Dry off at The White Horse! This East Austin honky-tonk offers a warm interior and the opportunity to shake your tush dry on the dance floor. If you don't feel like grooving, sidle on up to the bar for a round or two.
Nomad Bar
This nice little bar in Central East Austin has enough indoor seating and beer options to keep you occupied for a while. The outdoor patio area is partially covered, so brave souls can enjoy watching the downpour outside without getting too wet. Nomad also gets an A+ for plenty of parking.
Firehouse Lounge
Firehouse Lounge very well may be the coziest spot in downtown Austin. Situated behind a bookcase in a hostel near The Driskill, this hideout is a great spot if you're already out and about and need to seek refuge from the storm. Come early, post up for a while and enjoy the speakeasy vibes.
Ego's
This beloved karaoke lounge on South Congress will give you the liquid courage needed to belt out a song or two. And the fact that it's smack-dab in the middle of a covered parking lot means you won't get soaked.
Wright Bros. Brew and Brew
No matter what beverage you're in the mood for, Wright Bros. has it for you. Coffee pick-me-up? Check. Warm cup of tea? Check. Cold beer? Check. The drink lineup and cool vibe make this a perfect pit stop no matter the time of day.
Phara's
This North Loop restaurant doubles as a hookah lounge and triples as a rainy day escape with plush pillows and warm decor. Bonus: Phara's is BYOB. We suggest throwing down for some snacks to go along with your sheesha.
Weather Up
Weather Up is great no matter the weather (pun intended). Although the outdoor yard area is perfect for the sunshine, but the inviting booths offer an inviting indoor haven. The covered double-decker patio is a great space to enjoy summer storms.
Alamo Drafthouse
Catching a movie is the standard prescription for the rainy day blues. The extensive menu at the Drafthouse includes some delicious boozy creations, or you can post up at the 400 Rabbits Bar at the Slaughter location.
