Killer taco restaurant invades Central Austin's newest boutique hotel
The Zombie tacos are coming! The Zombie tacos are coming!
At the Moxy Austin hotel, being developed near the University of Texas campus, a food truck-inspired, around-the-clock restaurant called Zombie Taco will serve tacos, burritos, “healthy” food bowls, and other made-to-order items during the breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night hours.
Austin’s Zombie Taco will be the concept’s third location. The first one opened last year at the Moxy hotel in Chicago, and the second one will premiere later this year at the Moxy hotel in Louisville, Kentucky.
Among the items on the Chicago menu are jalapeño and bacon tacos, chicken chorizo tacos, quinoa and cauliflower tacos, Korean steak burritos, pork and chicken Zombie burritos, brisket hash, jalapeño and bacon doughnut sandwiches, mimosas, Bloody Marys, beer, wine, and 10 craft cocktails.
The 162-room “experiential” Moxy Austin is scheduled to open in late 2020 at Guadalupe and West 26th streets on a lot formerly occupied by a Jack in the Box restaurant. Indiana-based White Lodging Services Corp. is the owner, developer, and operator of the boutique hotel.
“It’s not easy to emulate Austin’s unique vibe and free-spirit culture, but Moxy Austin is designed to do just that,” Deno Yiankes, president and CEO of the investments and development division at White Lodging, says in a release. “Moxy is distinctly different than what this area of Austin has to offer, and we are anxious to showcase this concept to those visiting the campus district.”
White Lodging says the Moxy brand “features an industrial chic look and aesthetic of polished concrete floors, exposed concrete columns, and open ceilings.” Other facets of the Austin hotel will include game tables, an interactive digital guestbook, and an open-air patio with lounge seating and fire pits.
The hotel bar will double as the check-in spot. Upon arrival, each guest will be treated to a complimentary Got Moxy cocktail.
Highlights of the guest rooms include free Wi-Fi; 49-inch, wall-mounted TVs; motion-sensor lighting; and platform beds.
Moxy Austin will be the first Texas location for Marriott’s millennial-focused Moxy brand. Other Moxy hotels are around the U.S., as well as in Europe and Asia.
White Lodging owns or operates 12 hotels in the Austin area. In addition to Moxy Austin, it’s developing the Austin Marriott Downtown, The Otis Hotel, and AC Hotel. The Otis and AC hotels are scheduled to open in early 2020, while the Marriott’s debut is on tap for the summer of 2020.
