Popular Austin pub shutters in big Warehouse District switcheroo
Get ready for a downtown bar switcheroo. Fado Irish Pub is slated to close next year to make way for a new concept. Austin-based FBR Management is taking over the lease of the Warehouse District property and will debut something new in 2018.
The local hospitality group, helmed by serial barman Matt Luckie, "will be completely renovating the space with new concept(s) currently under development," Luckie says in a statement to CultureMap. "We plan to reveal our concept details in the coming months."
This is familiar territory for FBR. Luckie's reign started two decades ago with Lucky Lounge and Red Fez, both of which have since shuttered. FBR's other concepts, original and acquired, include Lala's Little Nugget, Mean Eyed Cat, The Wheel, Star Bar, Rattle Inn, Gibson Street Bar, and Graceland Grocery.
"We are always looking for opportunities to expand in Austin and are bullish on the Warehouse District as the area continues to add Class A office space, multifamily and condo projects, and hotels," Luckie says.
Fado, located at 214 W. Fourth St., is a popular spot for Irish pub grub, rugby and soccer viewing, and rowdy watch parties. The Atlanta-based chain has nine other locations across the U.S., as well as an outpost in Abu Dhabi.
According to Austin360, Fado is looking for a new home in downtown Austin. CultureMap's request for comment from Fado has not been returned.
