Chilito's New Digs
Sneak a peek at the newest El Chilito east side locale
After nine years at its Manor Road location, Tex Mex destination El Chilito is expanding on the east side. The taqueria announced that it will open a second restaurant at 1623 E. Seventh St., formerly Church's Chicken, sometime around Labor Day weekend.
The restaurant has won the hearts of locals with simply authentic Tex Mex staples, fast service and friendly atmosphere. In true community fashion, El Chilito announced plans for a second location during its ninth anniversary celebration over the weekend.
Though Tex Mex foodies and taco lovers have been awaiting a long-slated El Chilito in South Austin, Bryan Gonzales of El Chile Group says the Seventh Street location will open first. “Because the restaurant infrastructure is already in place, we can open it sooner than our current project at 4501 Manchaca Rd.,” Gonzales tells CultureMap. The South Austin location is still on track to open in fall 2014.
The Tex Mex purveyor will be entering what we're dubbing “eat side" taco territory. The newest taqueria will join neighbors Veracruz All Natural and Tamale House East to create a trifecta of taco goodness. Gonzales ensures taco enthusiasts that the new El Chilito will serve the exact same menu as their Manor Road flagship.
The newest location is just latest restaurant from El Chile Group. In addition to El Chilito, the group owns sister restaurants El Chile, El Alma and El Sapo.
