Downtown's Swan Dive relaunches with new specialty drink menu and nightly danceparties
Unless you frequent the Red River dance-until-you’re-dead club Barbarella, you're most likely not familiar with its next door neighbor, The Swan Dive. But now, this little sister is going to get some special attention thanks to a makeover and new branding strategy.
Formerly a dive-y concert venue that earned the title of “that place next to Barb’s,” Swan Dive is transitioning from a concert venue to a similarly dance-centric domain featuring specialty cocktails to complement the beautiful design-conscious interior.
The self proclaimed “stylish barroom and music emporium” has undergone a recent touch up to its interior and a major face lift to the drink menu.
New drinks on the menu include the Sueño (tequila, lime juice, rosemary, cucumber and tonic), a Moscow Mule (vodka, ginger beer and lime), Cucumber Pimms (Pimms No. 1, ginger beer, lemon and rosemary) and several others.
For those characteristically late nights, a new feature of the club will be the "reverse happy hour," in which you can purchase specially crafted cocktails for a reduced price from 9 p.m. to midnight.
We're personally most intrigued by the new, low-cost bottle service dubbed the “Poor Man’s Pint.” This nifty whistle-wetter option allows patrons their choice of a pint of select liquors, served in an over-sized mason jar with a mixer for just $40.
The new music schedule has something for all patrons including Friday nights’ “Midnight Mass with Preston Craig” non-denominational dance party. Craig will be turning Swan Dive’s spacious floor into a gyrating dance party that features a mix of soul, neo-soul, disco, house, hip-hop and indie pop in compliance with the new direction of the club.
Tuesday evenings, Swan Dive will become a part of the ever popular “Tuezgayz” in conjunction with Barbarella. The two venues are connected by a back patio that will allow revelers free range between the contrasting spaces.
Other nightly events include “Snugglepie Wednesdays” showcasing Austin’s Stone Cold Snuggla DJ Collective and Thursday “Nineties Nights” highlighting 90s hip hop, dance and alternative music.
Whatever night you choose to go, Swan Dive’s new look, menu and anima are sure to provide the perfect medley for a superb night of dancing and drinking.
