Chinese restaurant delivers second location, Austin's first hard seltzer pops up, plus more food news

Tso Chinese Delivery is just days away from introducing its second location at 9333 Research Blvd., Ste. 402, thus doubling its delivery coverage area in Austin. Founder Min Choe tells CultureMap that the team is hoping to be operational on August 27 but cautions that the permitting process may slightly delay the date.
Much-missed Middle Eastern restaurant Ararat has been reborn as a grab-and-go window at 2401 E. Sixth St., aptly named Ararat ToGo. The tiny outpost, operating since July 29, dishes up dolmas, hummus, soups, and pastries, as well as a full coffee and bubble tea menu.
St. Elmo Brewing launched Austin’s first hard seltzer earlier this month. The flavors will rotate seasonally, starting off with a pair of low-ABV summer sippers: Citrus (lemon/lime) and Tropical (mango/guava/passionfruit).
Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa revamped its food and beverage offerings on August 6 with three new concepts. Birdie’s Burger Bar lets guests customize their burger from a variety of protein, bun, and fixings options. River Dogs sells gourmet hot dogs and shaved ice treats. The Smokin’ Food Truck dishes out — you guessed it — Texas-style barbecue.
Austin’s booziest competition is returning to the Fairmont Hotel Austin on September 12. Cocktail teams from top restaurants and bars battle it out for the ultimate title: Official Drink of Austin. Tickets are available now in two tiers, and VIP guests will be treated to an intimate cocktail class from Desert Door Texas Sotol. Proceeds benefit Austin Food & Wine Alliance’s culinary grant program.
Ciclo chef de cuisine James Flowers is lending a helping hand to La Flaca Urban Farm with a fundraising happy hour from 5-7 pm on August 18. The farm recently had a devastating crop loss due to deer overrunning its pepper field, quickly destroying almost seven months of work. Jordan Burchill will provide live music during the event, and valet parking is free for all attendees.
Local nutritional education organization Common Threads is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a chef takeover at The Pershing. The September 12 event includes plates created by Jo Chan (Eberly), Natalie Gazaui (Fonda San Miguel), Nic Yanes (Juniper), Amanda Rockman (New Waterloo), Mark McCain (Jeffrey’s), Jason Dady (Chispas), and Berty Richter (TLV). Olamaie pastry chef Jules Stoddart is hosting a back-to-school bake sale from 9 am to 1 pm on August 18. The menu includes kolaches, banana bread, cinnamon tolls, and mini chocolate bundt cakes, and the restaurant will also be serving coffee, mimosas, and Bloody Marys. Biscuit boxes with peach jam and pimento cheese can be preordered for pickup at the event.
