'Cue in Crestview
Legendary Austin barbecue joint opens outpost next to famous dive bar
North Central Austin has a hot new option for barbecue. On Tuesday, Stubb's Bar-B-Q announced the opening of a new outpost located next to Lala's Little Nugget on Justin Lane.
The new Crestview locale is serving up Stubb's famous dishes: meat by the pound (brisket, chicken, chopped beef, and pulled pork); barbecue plates; sandwiches; daily lunch specials; sides; and desserts. Additional "bar-friendly" options, such as nachos, sliders, and tacos (seen at Stubb's Mean Eyed Cat and Graceland Grocery outposts), are also available. Diners can enjoy 'cue with a beer or Bloody Mary from Lala's, which shares a new outdoor patio with Stubb's.
In 2015, Lala's was purchased and renovated by a group of restaurant and bar veterans including Mike Levine and Ryan Garrett (of Stubb's Bar-B-Q) and Matt Luckie, Max Moreland, and Anggay Tenney (of Mean Eyed Cat, Lavaca Street Bar, and Gibson Street Bar). Originally, the team planned to serve Stubb's at Lala's, but the idea grew into a more full-service operation.
Stubb's Bar-B-Q in Crestview is open 11 am to 10 pm Monday through Thursday, 11 am to 11 pm Friday and Saturday, and 11 am to 9 pm Sunday. Lala's is open from 11 am to 2 am Wednesday and Sunday; the bar opens at 4 pm every other day of the week.
