Swanky new sports bar and gastropub kicks into scenic North Austin location
For Albert Gonzalez and Poeta Asher, October must have been an uncommonly busy time. Less than two months after the couple announced they were transforming a shuttered Red’s Porch into Provision, the restaurant is already open the public. The concept, which combines elements of an upscale gastropub with a high-end sports bar, officially debuted October 30, according to a release.
Though it spiffed up Red’s interior, the 4200 Braker Ln., Ste. B restaurant still retains a warm neighborhood feel. Formerly outfitted in industrial chic, the dining room now boasts tobacco leather banquettes, sparkling mirrors, and curvy blue midcentury modern-inspired chairs.
Separated from that space is an expansive bar. The high-energy section includes a 136-inch retractable projection screen to show games while eight additional televisions are used for digital art. Steps away, a patio overlooking Quarry Lake offers diners the chance to enjoy a game al fresco.
“We’re excited about what we have created together,” chef Gonzalez says via release. “We’ve taken time to consider every decision and are proud of what we are offering.”
Along with the sophisticated yet friendly design, both the beverage and food menus keep up with the Capital City’s demand for more considered fare, while still keeping true to the town’s laid-back vibe. Signature dishes include lollipop wings with CKC Farms blue cheese, short rib ragout braised in red wine, and a redfish roll served with a salt and vinegar chip crumble and shaved kale slaw on a brioche bun.
The bar program is also a step up from Red’s assortment of Lone Stars and margaritas. Provision offers a full list of low- and zero-proof sippers that are just as complex as the restaurant's local craft beer, wine, and cocktail menus.
“I love being part of Austin’s growth,” notes Asher in the release. “It drives us as a new concept to be better because of the standards and skills people bring in from other areas, backgrounds and experiences.”
Provision is now open seven days a week. Hours are 11 am-10 pm, Sunday to Tuesday, and 11 am-11 pm, Friday and Saturday.
