C'mon get happy! Mussels and tacos and brunch...oh my!
Continuing our quest to get you through the week with change to spare, our top Happy Hour and specials picks for this week feature Tacos, Duck Nachos, Mussels, Oysters and some primo drink specials. Getting more for your money without skimping on fun comes easy if you know where to go.
Monday
Start your week the right way with BC Tavern's happy hour, featuring half price appetizers from 4-7 and $5 select wines by the glass. "Big enough for a meal" starters such as corn dog chicken, pork belly sandwich, duck nachos, chick pea fritters and steamed PEI Mussels compete for your favor. Mac and cheese includes optional toppings of black truffle, bacon, and duck confit. Try out their “new for fall” Pumpkin Spiced Martini!
Tuesday
El Alma Cafe is El Amazing from 3-7. Their half price appetizers—or "Antojitos"—are so flavorful and satisfying they feel more like dinner. "Gringas" (around $4.00-4.50), which are grilled flour tortillas with jack cheese, offer filling options of Pastor with pineapple or caramelized onions and mushrooms. With salsa and guacamole on the side and a drizzle of crema, they are almost too pretty to eat. Happy Hour is rounded out with $4 House Ritas, $5 Margarita Chilangas, $3 Sangria and $2 Lone Stars. After saving so much on food, you can splurge on an $8 Margarita Verde with avocado and Grand Marnier.
Wednesday
If you're still hankering for a Taste of Mexico but can't make the trip, it's not quite as far to Doc's Motorworks and Doc's Backyard where you can munch on $1 Crispy Tacos anytime. Choose from beef, chicken, or bean and cheese tacos complimented by a cold Tecate, Tecate Light, or Modelo for just $2. All of their Mexican canned beers are just $2 on Wednesdays. Ole!
Thursday
Relax, you don’t have to work out to get these mussels! Quality sparkling wines and Champagne are offered at half price and paired with bowls of steaming mussels at Stephen F’s from 4-7 on Thursdays. Enjoy live music on the patio and regular happy hour specials featuring Texas Draft Beer for $3 and house wine for $5.
Friday
November ends in “R” and that means it’s a good month for... oysters! Lemon spritzed, cocktail sauced, tabasco’d and served up on a cracker, oysters have a way of making us feel oh-sooo-adventurous and sophisticated. Abel’s on the Lake offers them for a mere 50 cents each from 4-6 Monday through Friday. Start your weekend on their pet friendly patio with a dozen on the half shell and a Deep Eddy Vodka or glass of suds from Real Ale Brewing for just $3.50.
Saturday
Another great pet friendly place is Baker St. Pub. You’ll see them teaming up with Austin Pets Alive! for various events which is definitely #WINNING in our book. On Saturdays, eat for cheap with hearty $5 apps served from noon to 6pm. From 2-9pm, it’s happy hour with domestics offered at $2-2.75 for drafts and $2.25 for select bottles. Select specialty drafts are $3.50 and select imports are $4.50-4.75. Opt for a pitcher at $7-8 for domestics and $12-14.50 for specialty and imports. Also, there's $2.50 house wine, $2 wells, and $2.50 -2.75 select calls.
Sunday
Frank ventures forth from their usual Hot Dog fare by offering Sunday brunch from 11 to 3. Enjoy entrees like Fried Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp & Grits or Texas Benedict. If you prefer to build your own breakfast, "The Franktastic Four" empowers you to pick 4 a la carte items for just $11. Frank's $2 Mimosa offers 5 different juice options, and the Red Headed Stranger is delectable with bacon infused Dripping Springs Vodka AND a 6 oz Pearl Chaser for only $8.
