We're giving you a sneak peek at a top Austin brewery's next phase. In early 2017, Austin Beerworks will debut an awesome new tasting room and brewing space.
In April, the team revealed plans to expand into a recently vacated adjoining space in North Austin. The expansion includes a 5,000-square-foot, Michael Hsu-designed taproom, plus more seasonal beers and greater distribution. Not only will the expansion increase production by more than 5,000 barrels per year — the brewery is currently on track to produce more than 17,000 this year — but the team will also be experimenting with new barrel-aged, sour, and seasonal beers.
Austin Beerworks celebrated its fifth birthday in 2016. The fearsome foursome of founders, Adam DeBower, Will Golden, Michael Graham, and Mike McGovern, set out to create an Austin brewery that focuses on "quality of beer and quality of life," DeBower told CultureMap earlier this year. This mantra is reflected by a sign designed by Christian Helms of Helms Workshop that is located above the taproom bar.
The new taproom will serve the brewery's four core beers — Peacemaker Anytime Ale, Pearl-Snap German-style Pils, Black Thunder German-style Schwarz, and Fire Eagle American IPA — alongside exclusive creations. Slated for an early 2017 debut, it will be open seven days a week.
Can't wait for the new space? Austin Beerworks will tap its new Sputnik (a Russian imperial coffee oatmeal stout) on Sunday, December 11, at the current taproom, open Wednesday through Sunday. Other standouts available now include two collaborations with New Belgium Brewing.
