Uchi's New Restaurant
Uchi team launches new Austin restaurant, St. Philip, with an unexpected menu
Proving they are anything but a one-trick pony, the masterminds behind the ever-popular Uchi brand announced this morning that they are opening a pizza restaurant in Sunset Valley next summer. In late 2012, the team revealed their plans to open a new project in 2014.
Deriving its name from the patron saint of cooks and bakers, St. Philip will function as a part bakery, part restaurant, serving a myriad of housemade pizzas, gourmet sandwiches, small plates and an assortment of pastries and baked goods.
“This is really a passion project for us. The idea of a place where we can riff on classics and the things we all grew up with. Nostalgic food. Great housemade breads and sandwiches, pizzas, exciting shared plates and of course, great desserts,” Philip Speer, executive pastry chef and director of culinary operations for Uchi, said in a media statement..
Speer will pioneer the new restaurant alongside other collaborative members of the Uchi team, including co-founder Daryl Kunik, Uchi chef-owner Tyson Cole, and several others.
St. Philip is scheduled to open in summer 2014 at 4715 South Lamar Boulevard. The Sunset Valley restaurant will feature lunch, brunch and dinner, as well as a beer and wine menu.
