Austin Food & Wine Alliance gives $30K to local culinary innovators
The city's culinary community gathered at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on Tuesday evening to honor the 2014 Austin Food & Wine grant award winners. New Farm Institute at Green Gate Farms, Springdale Center for Urban Agriculture, Fresh Chefs Society, Growers Alliance of Central Texas and Anjore will split $30,000 from the local nonprofit.
Over the past year, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance received more than 20 grant applications and used a committee to select the five winners who will split the $30,000. New Farm Institute at Green Gate Farms will receive $10,000; Springdale Center for Urban Agriculture will receive $7,500; Fresh Chefs Society and Growers Alliance of Central Texas each will receive $5,000; and Anjore will receive $2,500.
“We are thrilled to support so many outstanding projects that truly are making an astounding impact on our community,” said Cathy Cochran-Lewis, AFWA grant chair and past president, in a press release. “We are so fortunate to have the ingenuity, talent and commitment of these individuals and organizations focused on the advancement of food, wine and spirits in our community.
The nonprofit raises money through donations, community partnerships and annual events including the annual Wine & Swine Pig Roast each fall and Live Fire!, which is held before the Austin Food & Wine Festival. Over the past three years, the AFWA has award more than $75,000 to local culinary innovators including Salt & Time Butcher Shop & Salumeria, Confituras and Skinny Lane Farm.
