This Sub Is Going Under
Austin's over-the-top Jewish sub shop closes for 'other opportunities'

JewBoy Sub Shop is at the end of its lease, and owner Mo Pittle is looking forward to a new mystery project.
According to a July 15 social media post and identical press release, JewBoy Sub Shop will close this Sunday, July 20. The restaurant at 6701 Burnet Rd., Unit A3, combined West Texas and Jewish ingredients in huge, spilling over sandwiches since 2021.
The announcement states that the Sub Shop is at the end of the lease and the team will be pursuing "other opportunities" in its stead. It teases more details to come sometime in August.
Fans can take consolation in knowing that many menu items will be preserved or adapted at other JewBoy locations that will continue on.
The restaurant will offer food and drink specials all day on Sunday until sold out.
"We can’t express our gratitude enough to all our customers and employees who supported our journey these last four and a half years," said the message, signed by owner Mo Pittle. "Peace, love, and a slutty sandwich!"
Austin's JewBoy restaurants are known for their burgers, but the offshoots have also gathered a loyal following.
There are two JewBoy Sliders outposts that are nearly identical to the original burger joint, but smaller — that applies to both the burgers and the trailers Sliders operates out of.
The Sub Shop's menu was entirely different, but some genetic similarity was evident in the prominent use of extremely gooey cheese, a side of especially crispy fries, and the loving addition of regional or cultural twists like poblanos, hatch green chiles, house-made pastrami, or even mazto ball soup as a special.
This sandwich shop also added to those cultural influences a devotion to Philly cheese steaks and various Italian-ish "parms," which served together as the basis for most of the menu.
JewBoy Sub Shop's regular hours are daily (except Mondays) from 11 am to 9 pm.
