As if having the city's best farmers market were not enough, Austin's Mueller neighborhood is getting another fresh produce-fueled treat. Sprouts Farmers Market is opening a new store at 1201 Barbara Jordan Blvd. (across from the Home Depot) on September 22.

The Arizona-based grocery chain is known for an emphasis on fresh and healthy foods, from its in-store selection to its community initiatives. There are five existing stores in the greater Austin area, but all are west of Interstate 35; The Mueller store will give the first easy access to Central and East Austin-based shoppers.

True to its name, Sprouts Farmers Market puts produce front-and-center in the store, and arranges much of its stock by specific needs and preferences: organic, plant-based, keto, paleo, etc. A large portion of the products are Sprouts brand, from olive oil to produce, meat, baked goods, and even supplements.

Not only is this a big deal for Sprouts fans, it's big, period. The store put out a call for 95 employees — full- and part-time — to staff the new location, including department managers, cashiers, administrative coordinators, and more. Public records show that the store will be about 20,200 square feet.

"Sprouts’ healthy approach to grocery shopping means potential team members should share a passion for the fresh, natural and organic products offered throughout the store," says the release.

Three hiring events will help organize the process: one virtual management hiring event on July 19, and two in-person team member hiring events on August 9 and 10. The latter will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Austin Airport from 8 am to 6 pm, and candidates may pre-apply online or do it all at the event.
