MOTHER'S DAY DINING
4 Austin restaurants land on OpenTable's top 100 brunch list
One of Suerte's more unexpected brunch dishes is this cold-smoked salmon tostada.
Austin has four new reasons not to procrastinate on Mother's Day reservations. A handful of local restaurants have earned a spot on OpenTable's Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in America for 2026.
Austin's four restaurants have a slightly formal slant — not a surprise for OpenTable, since casual restaurants tend not to use reservation platforms.
- Aba: This Mediterranean restaurant is on many lists, combining a chic atmosphere with upscale comfort foods like a variety of zhuzhed up hummus flavors, kebabs, and a short rib shakshuka.
- Josephine House: This charming house in Clarksville has a beautiful brunch menu with fancy twists all the classics, including lemon ricotta pancakes with cultured butter, steak and eggs, and a bacon, leek, and goat cheese quiche.
- Perla's Seafood and Oyster Bar: Depending on how early you want to dive into the raw bar, diners can also opt for a lobster omelette, New Orleans-style shrimp and grits, a simple fish and chips, or many more dishes.
- Suerte: One of the city's most lauded Mexican restaurants, Suerte is cooking up classics like chilaquiles, suadero tacos, conchas, enmoladas de pollo, and more.
According to the restaurant booking platform, the annual ranking is based on analysis of more than 10 million diner reviews, along with diner ratings. Texas claimed 11 spots total, with Austin leading the state's showing, Dallas contributing three names, and Houston placing two. Only one San Antonio restaurant was listed.
OpenTable also revealed some data about Mother’s Day dining preferences. Its research says that most moms (42 percent) prefer dining out on the big day over having breakfast in bed. Those silver dollar pancakes may be adorable, but mothers still often have to clean up all the spilled flour after the celebration ends.
"Our research shows dining out is the gift moms want most this Mother's Day, with 42% ranking it at the top of their wish list," said OpenTable VP of restaurant sales and services Cheryl Paniagua in a release "That makes planning ahead more important than ever, especially considering the majority of reservations are made over a week in advance.”
OpenTable says noon remains the most popular reservation time for Mother’s Day overall, but the platform saw a 14 percent increase in users opting out of mimosas and choosing an early 5 pm dinner.
Whether in the morning or evening, parties are growing larger. There was a 13 percent increase in tables for six or more, a trend the platform suggests is due to more multi-generational gatherings.
In addition to Austin's picks, the following Texas restaurants earned a place on OpenTable’s unranked list:
- Al Biernat's Oak Lawn — Dallas
- Cafe Pacific — Dallas
- Chama Gaucha — San Antonio
- Hudson House Lakewood — Dallas
- Le Jardinier — Houston
- Maximo — Houston
- Perry's Steakhouse & Grille Park District — Dallas
