The lowdown: On May 12, Austin arts patrons gathered at the Paramount Theatre in honor of the theater's 103rd birthday. One of Austin's biggest parties turned out another sold-out crowd who were in turn treated to a special performance by the Gipsy Kings. The annual gala — now in its eighth year — is the biggest fundraiser for the Paramount and State theaters.
Co-chaired by Kim Vaughan and Catherine Wilke, this year's extravaganza featured additional live performances from DJ Mel and Brownout and literal dancing in the streets as gala-goers took over the storied Congress Avenue for the evening.
Other highlights included a silent auction chaired by Kathleen Seiders, a Flamenco-fueled cocktail hour, seated dinner under a tent hitched on Congress, and catering by the Paramount's neighbors at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel.
