New USPS wedding stamps will save Austin brides a 2-ounce headache
New stamps from the U.S. Postal Service will help ease one of the biggest stresses about one of the tiniest details of wedding planning: mailing the invitations.
The USPS has introduced Wedding Blooms and Celebration Blooms, two complementary stamps with pretty floral designs that make a natural pair, "well-suited for spreading good cheer," says a release.
Especially important, Wedding Blooms are 92-cent, two-ounce stamps, meaning they can accommodate the weight of heavy wedding invitations. No more doubling up on those one-ounce "Love" stamps. They can be purchased in sheets of 20 self-adhesive stamps for $18.40.
Celebration Blooms are 68-cent one-ounce "Forever" stamps, so they can be used on smaller RSVP envelopes inside the invitation suites — or on shower invitations or thank-you notes. They can be ordered in sheets of 20 self-adhesive stamps for $13.60.
"These stamps each feature an arrangement of brilliantly colored flowers rendered in ink and gouache, which add luster to the vivid hues of red, yellow, purple, pink, green and blue, says the release. "Derry Noyes, an art director for USPS, designed both stamps using existing illustrations by artist Kim Parker."
Choosing appropriate wedding stamps are a key aspect of nailing down how to mail wedding invites, says The Knot.
"Finding the right stamps for your wedding invitations is kind of a big deal. Most importantly, the type of or amount of stamps you include on an envelope could make or break your stationery arriving safely to your eager guests, since the size and weight of your invitation is likely a little different from a standard letter," the wedding planning site says. "Also, a cluster of pretty stamps says to the recipient: 'Yes hello, I am a special piece of correspondence, please don't leave me in the mailbox to be crushed by a Pottery Barn catalog or yet another Chinese takeout menu.'"
One tip they offer for determining the right amount of postage for each wedding invitation: Take one fully assembled invitation to the post office and have it weighed by a postal clerk.
As the new stamps were released in late March, they may not yet be in all Austin post offices or stores. Customers can order them through the Postal Store at usps.com/shopstamps.
