New UT Athletic Director
Times are a-changin: UT names new athletic director
On November 5, the University of Texas at Austin announced a new athletic director to replace DeLoss Dodds, who retired earlier this year after leading the department for more than three decades.
According to the official press release, Steve Patterson has been tapped to replace Dodds. If his appointment is approved by the Board of Regents (they meet November 12 and 13), he will begin his new position before the end of the fall semester.
Steve Patterson has always been a Longhorn at heart, earning his bachelor's and law degrees from UT.
Patterson comes to UT after serving as the athletic director at Arizona State University. Despite his tenure as a Sun Devil, he's always been a Longhorn at heart, earning his bachelor's and law degrees from UT.
He's also served as an executive with big Texas franchises, including the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets and Houston Aeros. Patterson also worked with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Powers and other UT officials plan on formally announcing Patterson's candidacy for the position later this week.
Will Patterson be the only new name in UT's athletic department this year? Only time will tell.
