Flights of fantasy
Southwest's summer sale connects Austin to 22 cities beginning at $49

Been itching for a fall getaway? Now’s the time to book your flight. On June 5, Southwest Airlines announced the launch of its semiannual three-day sale with discounted departures all over Texas.
The one-way fares come in four price points ranging from $49-$129. The sale includes domestic flights scheduled between August 21-December 12 with the exception of Fridays and Sundays. A few blackout dates also apply, but the bulk of them are around Thanksgiving between November 16-27.
For those flying out of Austin, the sale features 22 destinations. Most of the flights are $99 or under, including ultra-cheap $49 flights to Texas cities like El Paso, Dallas, Houston, Harlingen, and Lubbock.
Some of the other highlights include $79 fares to Kansas City, Missouri (worth it for the barbecue), New Orleans, and New York/Newark; $99 flights to Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles; and $129 tickets to Sacramento and San Jose, California.
If you are planning a trip out of the country, it may be worth a little research and a brief stop in Houston. Some of the international deals offered out of Hobby Airport include flights to Belize City, Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico City, and Puerto Vallarta — all for less than $150.
You can see a full list of discounted flights here. But you better act quickly. The flash sale ends at 11:59 pm on June 7.
